Not sure where you want to go after the wedding?

The typical tourist route extends southwards towards the Hill Country (Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Hatton and Ella) where you’ll be surrounded by tea fields and then the South Coast (Yala National Park for a safari; Mirissa/Weligama, Tangalle, Hiriketiya, and Ahangama for the beach), . If you want more of a cultural fix, head north towards Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Jaffna. If you’d like to hit the beach sooner, you can head eastwards to Pasikuda Beach and Trincomalee. If you’re only in the country for the week, we’d suggest exploring more of the Cultural Triangle before heading back towards the Negombo for the beach before you head out.

Getting to Kandalama

The easiest and most comfortable way to reach Heritance Kandalama from Colombo City or Bandaranaike International Airport (Colombo Airport) is by car. The journey typically takes approximately 3–3.5 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

What’s in the area?

If you’re spending a few days extra in addition to our wedding, Kandalama is right in the heart of Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle and offers plenty of excursions and day-trips in your free time. From ancient UNESCO World Heritance Sites to elephant gatherings, there is something for everyone here.

Sigiriya Rock

A 5th-century UNESCO World Heritage site featuring a 200m high ancient rock fortress topped with ancient palace ruins.
Dambulla Cave Temple

A 1st-century UNESCO World Heritage Site, featuring caves filled with hundreds of ancient Buddha statues, and over 2,100m² of murals, siting under a 160m-high overhanging rock.
Anuradhapura

The first ancient capital of Sri Lanka (established in the 5th century BCE) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a major sacred city for Buddhism, famous for massive ancient stupas, monasteries, and complex, ancient water reservoirs.
Polonnaruwa

An ancient city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sri Lanka’s second capital (from 10th to 13 century) featuring preserved ruins.
Minneriya National Park

A 8,890ha protected wildlife sanctuary, famous for hosting the world’s largest known congregation of Asian elephants.
